President's Advisory Council on Financial Literacy Issues Annual Report Includes 15 Recommendations for Improving Financial Literacy for All Americans
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The bipartisan U.S. President’s Advisory Council on Financial Literacy today announced the publication of its first Annual Report to the President, which contains 15 recommendations for steps that should be taken to improve the financial literacy of Americans of all ages. The 16-member Council unanimously approved the report during its meeting on January 6, 2009, and the full Annual Report is now available at the Council’s website: http://www.treas.gov/ofe. 2009 Financial Literacy Summit Available for Viewing The 2009 Financial Literacy and Education Summit brought international leaders of finance together at the Chicago Federal Reserve Bank to discuss strategies for improving financial education and individual money management. The Summit panelists, who included Canadian Finance Minister James Flaherty, Sarah Rosen Wartell of the Center of American Progress, and United States Senator Daniel Akaka, focused on the global imperative for financial literacy and the opportunities for cooperation in providing necessary educational resources.
