About Us

Organized in 2000, the Michigan Jump$tart Coalition for Financial Literacy is a conglomeration of more than 30 organizations— public, private and non-profit—that seek to improve the personal financial literacy of Michigan´s young adults. Like the National Jump$tart Coalition, the Michigan Jump$tart Coalition endeavors to increase the prominence of financial literacy of young adults; develop, disseminate, and encourage the use of standards for grades K-12; and promote the teaching of personal finance. The Michigan Jump$tart Coalition affiliated with the National Jump$tart Coalition in 2004.

Mission

The Michigan Jump$tart Coalition seeks to improve the personal financial literacy of Michigan young people, in partnership with the national Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy.

Vision

The Michigan Jump$tart Coalition envisions a time when all Michigan young people will have access to personal finance education in order to develop the necessary skills to be financially competent upon graduation from high school.

Objectives

Public and Educator Awareness

Increase public and educator awareness of the needs to improve the personal financial literacy of Michigan youth. We hold an annual legislative lunch and learn in Lansing in the Spring to urge our lawmakers to pass legislation that mandates the inclusion of financial education in the K-12 curriculum and thank them for their advocacy of youth financial literacy.
